Polysling Application

Video Transcription

Polysling is an important appliance for the shoulder surgeon. There are various types on the market; all follow the same principle. This particular type depends on Velcro. It has an extendible part for the forearm. It is applied by placing the forearm in the sling. The shoulder strap is passed around the back of the affected shoulder and then around the neck. The clear strap is placed near the elbow. The strap with the ring is placed near the wrist. One ring is placed superiorly and the other behind the arm, between the arm and the body. The shoulder strap is passed through the superior ring and doubled back onto itself. The sling can then be adjusted according to the surgeon’s preference, as demonstrated. An extra option of the body belt can be applied. In this case, we’ll Velcro around the elbow. The belt is brought around the back of the body. The Velcro then is folded and passed through the other ring. It’s passed so that the belt doubles up on itself and adjusted accordingly. This is the sling as demonstrated.
